Update on Western Way Development in Bury St Edmunds

West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (WSFT) has taken the decision not to move any of its own healthcare services into the proposed Western Way Development in Bury St Edmunds, which is being led by West Suffolk Council.

The original proposal was to explore moving some of our health services into the Western Way Development as part of the government’s national ‘One Public Estates’ programme to co-locate public services.

WSFT’s decision not to move into Western Way Development comes amidst a challenging financial climate for all NHS Trusts.

Craig Black, director of resources and deputy chief executive of West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust said:

“The West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust Board has taken the difficult decision not to progress with potential plans to move some of our services into the Western Way Development site.

“In the current financial climate, we are having to balance delivering the future health requirements of our community in more constrained financial circumstances.

“West Suffolk Council remains a hugely valuable alliance partner in our delivery of a shared vision to improve the health and wellbeing of the west Suffolk community.”
