We are reducing our use of cash, which means cash payments are no longer accepted at certain Trust services, such as:

  • Time Out restaurant at West Suffolk Hospital
  • White Lodge Café at Newmarket Community Hospital

We are encouraging customers to help us reduce our use of cash by using alternative digital payment methods (for example, a debit/credit card or mobile contactless payment), however, cash will continue to be accepted at:

  • Courtyard Café at West Suffolk Hospital
  • Pharmacy services
  • Car parking payment machines at West Suffolk Hospital – payment machine 1 located in the main foyer at the front of the hospital and payment machine 6 located outside the Macmillan Unit.

Why are we reducing our use of cash?

The Trust has been accepting card payments over many years, and the level of cash takings has continued reducing in recent years to a relatively low level overall. Reducing our use of cash will provide:

  • improved safety: Reduces the need for handling cash and lowers the risk of theft.
  • greater convenience: Enables faster transactions and helps reduce queues.
  • environmental impact: Cuts down on paper receipts and carbon emissions from cash collection.
  • better financial management: Streamlines accounting and reporting.
  • cost savings: Reduces banking and cash management costs.

How can you help us reduce our use of cash?

To help us reduce our use of cash, please bring a debit/credit card or the ability to pay using contactless with your mobile phone.

What happens if I don’t have cash, a debit/credit card, or a contactless-enabled mobile phone?

If you have no way to pay for services, the Trust has an online 24-hour secure payment service, where you can pay for services such as:

  • car parking
  • prescriptions
  • wheelchair services
  • hearing aids
  • surgical appliances
  • private appointments and procedures.
