- Suspected lung fibrosis or other interstitial lung disease
 
- Respiratory failure

- Uncontrolled asthma in pregnancy
 
- Suspected occupational induced lung disease
 
- Patients needing bronchoscopy
 
- Pleural diseases
 
- Patients with asthma with frequent exacerbations being treated with steroids and step three medication (with normal chest x-ray)
 
- Suspected or diagnosed Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with -
- Diagnostic uncertainty
 
- Rapid decline in functional status
 
- Severe COPD  
 
- Recurrent exacerbations
 
- Consideration for maintenance steroids
 
- Symptoms disproportionate to lung function deficit
 
- Early age onset and/or absence of smoking
 
- Recurrent chest infections
