The car parking payment system at the West Suffolk Hospital (WSH) will be changing from Monday, 26 January 2026. The exit barriers will be removed so that it becomes a completely barrierless system at entrance and exit of the site.
This new system will:
- reduce traffic congestion when exiting the site
- provide flexibility in how you can pay for car parking
- provide a cost saving for the Trust
- modernise how we provide car parking.
What does this mean?
With automatic number plate recognition in place at the Trust, the removal of the exit barriers will make life easier and quicker for you.
For those eligible to park on the WSH site, you will need to register for car parking on the new payment system, Sippi, from Monday, 22 December 2025. The car parking team will send a link to colleagues to apply. All applications will be screened, and only those colleagues who are currently eligible to park on site will be successful.
Colleagues will continue to be charged at existing rates, with prices only increasing annually in line with the consumer price index (CPI) each financial year (April).
Questions and answers
The Trust’s current car parking management contract ended in October 2025. A new contractor, UK CPM, will take over from Nexus on 26 January 2026.
As part of this, a new payment system will be implemented and the barriers removed at the exits to alleviate congestion during peak times. The new payment system will provide a more seamless way of exiting the site, more flexibility in how colleagues pay for car parking, and a cost saving for the Trust while modernising how we manage car parking.
No, this change is just about the way parking is paid for and operated, not the eligibility of colleagues parking on site.
Any colleagues who may no longer be deemed eligible to park on site, such as parents with children who are no longer at Busy Bees, may have their eligibility revoked. However, through the registration process, colleagues can appeal by providing more information.
If your registration is rejected, you will receive an email.
Please read the 'message to admin', who will state the reason for being rejected.
A significant number of registrations are being rejected due to colleagues changing the way they will pay for car parking in the new system. Should this be the case, please complete a 'change of circumstances form' and send it to carparkingenquiries@wsh.nhs.uk.
No, this change does not impact the rates you currently pay.
The price of parking rises in line with the Consumer Price Index each financial year (April), and this is the only time that pricing is currently scheduled to change.
If you are eligible to park on the West Suffolk Hospital site, you will:
- Enter the site via the usual entrance where your registration number plate will be scanned
- Park your vehicle and make your way to your place of work
- Exit the car park as usual but no longer be held at exit barriers.
If you are not eligible to park on the West Suffolk Hospital site, you must:
- Use the Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club and the free shuttle bus service
- Find alternative parking arrangements elsewhere off site
- Find alternative methods of travel.
You will need to register for car parking on the new payment system, Sippi, from Friday, 9 January 2026.
Colleagues will receive a link containing information on how to register and the link to register. All registrations will be screened, and only those colleagues who are currently eligible to park on site will be successful.
- If you pay monthly, upon exiting the site, your registration number plate will be scanned confirming your exit and you will be charged accordingly
- If you pay daily, you will need to either use a payment machine before exit or the Sippi app within 48 hours of exiting the site.
Colleagues that currently pay through salary deduction will continue to be able to do so. Those who are unable to pay through salary deduction will be able to pay via direct debit through the Sippi app.
Colleagues are strongly encouraged to use all credit on their account before the change comes into effect. Existing credit cannot be transferred to the new system.
Any remaining credit will be reimbursed via colleagues' monthly salary.
Any colleagues with debt on their account must settle this before the change takes place. Any outstanding debt may result in your ability to park on site being revoked until this debt is settled.
We understand salary deduction for car parking applies to the month ahead. It is therefore very important that colleagues register for car parking with the new system as soon as possible.
Should any colleagues be charged via salary deduction for car parking under the previous system on 25 January, this will be reimbursed in February.
No, we are not planning to expand or reduce the number of car parking spaces on the West Suffolk Hospital site.
Clear, refreshed signage will be installed outlining which areas are staff-only parking across the site.
No, you will still be offered free car parking if you are accessing the site between 5.30pm and 9.30pm.
If you do not have autopay enabled or salary deduction set up and do not pay for your car parking within 48 hours, you will be served with a penalty charge notice (PCN).
You have to put your number plate details into the payment machine, and this will be logged with the automatic number plate recognition system so will register that you have paid.
No, only existing colleagues who are eligible for parking on the site will be successful. All registrations will be screened, i.e. if you have a child that no longer attends Busy Bees you may not be eligible to park on site.
No, this change will not impact any colleague who is a Blue Badge holder.
All Blue Badge holders will automatically be moved over to the new system, so there is no need to register with Sippi.
There will be one payment machine on the West Suffolk Hospital site that still takes cash when the new payment system is installed. This is located by the Macmillan Unit.
While most of the car parking payment machines will be replaced in their existing locations, additional machines will be placed in the patient and visitor car park and by the exit of the West Suffolk Hospital site.
Yes, colleagues can register up to three cars on their car parking account.

Should you need to change the details of the registered vehicle, you can do so via the Sippi portal, or if you are 'pay as you go', on the Sippi app.
No, if you are a volunteer, governor, or a non-executive director you will continue to receive free car parking.
You do not need to register for car parking as the car parking team will do this for you.
No, students and T-Level students will continue to receive free car parking.
You do not need to register for car parking as the car parking team will do this for you.
No, staff who come on to the West Suffolk Hospital site in ad-hoc fashion, such as those collecting or delivering equipment, or for a meeting, are not required to register with the new car parking payment system.
As is currently the case, those arriving on site for an ad-hoc visit will need to continue emailing carparkingenquiries@wsh.nhs.uk ahead of their visit.
