The car parking payment system at the West Suffolk Hospital (WSH) changed as of Monday, 26 January 2026. The exit barriers have been removed so it is a completely barrierless system at the entrance and exit of the site.
This new system aims to:
- reduce traffic congestion when exiting the site
- provide flexibility in how you can pay for car parking
- provide a cost saving for the Trust
- modernise how we provide car parking.
What does this mean?
With automatic number plate recognition in place at the West Suffolk Hospital, the removal of the exit barriers will make life easier and quicker for you.
For those eligible to park on the WSH site, you will need to register for car parking on the new payment system, Sippi. All applications will be screened, and only those colleagues who are eligible to park on site will be successful.
Colleagues will continue to be charged at existing rates, with prices only increasing annually in line with the consumer price index (CPI) each financial year (April).
Questions and answers
The Trust’s current car parking management contract ended in October 2025. A new contractor, UK CPM, has assumed management of the West Suffolk Hospital car car parks.
As part of this, a new payment system has been implemented and the barriers have been removed at the exits to alleviate congestion during peak times. The new payment system provides a more seamless way of exiting the site, more flexibility in how colleagues pay for car parking, and a cost saving for the Trust while modernising how we manage car parking.
No, this change is just about the way parking is paid for and operated, not the eligibility of colleagues parking on site.
Any colleagues who may no longer be deemed eligible to park on site, such as parents with children who are no longer at Busy Bees, may have their eligibility revoked. However, through the registration process, colleagues can appeal by providing more information.
If your registration is rejected, you will receive an email.
Please read the 'message to admin', who will state the reason for being rejected.
A significant number of registrations are being rejected due to colleagues changing the way they will pay for car parking in the new system. Should this be the case, please complete a 'change of circumstances form' and send it to carparkingenquiries@wsh.nhs.uk.
No, this change does not impact the rates you currently pay.
The price of parking rises in line with the Consumer Price Index at the end of each financial year (April), and this is the only time that pricing is currently scheduled to change.
If you are eligible to park on the West Suffolk Hospital site, you will:
- enter the site via the usual entrance where your registration number plate will be scanned
- park your vehicle and make your way to your place of work
- exit the car park as usual but no longer be held at exit barriers.
If you are not eligible to park on the West Suffolk Hospital site, you must:
- use the Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club and the free shuttle bus service
- find alternative parking arrangements elsewhere off site
- find alternative methods of travel.
You will need to register for car parking on the new payment system, Sippi.
Colleagues will receive a link containing information on how to register and the link to register. All registrations will be screened, and only those colleagues who are currently eligible to park on site will be successful.
- If you pay monthly, upon exiting the site, your registration number plate will be scanned confirming your exit and you will be charged accordingly
- If you pay daily, you will need to either use the Sippi app to pay within 48 hours of exiting the site or enable autopay
Colleagues that currently pay through salary deduction will continue to be able to do so. Those who are unable to pay through salary deduction will be able to pay via direct debit through the Sippi app.
Any existing credit will be reimbursed via their monthly salary.
Any colleagues with debt on their account must settle this. Any outstanding debt may result in your ability to park on site being revoked until this debt is settled.
To settle any existing debt, please make a payment via the online payment portal.
We understand salary deduction for car parking applies to the month ahead. It is therefore very important that colleagues register for car parking with the new system as soon as possible.
Should any colleagues be charged via salary deduction for car parking under the previous system on 23 January, this will be reimbursed in their monthly wages.
No, have not expanded or reduced the number of car parking spaces on the West Suffolk Hospital site.
Clear, refreshed signage has been installed outlining which areas are staff-only parking across the site.
No, you are still offered free car parking if you are accessing the site between 5.30pm and 9.30pm.
If you do not have autopay enabled or salary deduction set up and do not pay for your car parking within 48 hours, you will be served with a penalty charge notice (PCN).
You have to put your number plate details into the payment machine, and this will be logged with the automatic number plate recognition system so it will register that you have paid.
No, only existing colleagues who are eligible for parking on the site will be successful. All registrations are being screened, i.e. if you have a child that no longer attends Busy Bees you may not be eligible to park on site.
No, this change will not impact any colleague who is a Blue Badge holder.
All existing Blue Badge holders have been automatically moved over to the new system, so there is no need to register with Sippi.
There is one payment machine on the West Suffolk Hospital site that still takes cash, this is located by the Macmillan Unit.
While most of the car parking payment machines have been replaced in their existing locations, additional machines have been placed in the patient and visitor car park and by the exit of the West Suffolk Hospital site.
Yes, colleagues can register up to three cars on their car parking account.

No, staff who come on to the West Suffolk Hospital site in ad-hoc fashion, such as those collecting or delivering equipment, or for a meeting, are not required to register with the new car parking payment system.

Yes, if you are on site for less than 30 minutes you will not be charged for car parking.
Previously, it was 20 minutes at the front car park and 30 minutes at the rear car parks, however, it is now 30 minutes across the entire site.
St Nicholas Hospice staff will receive free car parking at the West Suffolk Hospital.
Those visiting loved ones at St Nicholas Hospice will receive free car parking.
Hospice staff will record visitors’ vehicle registration details, which will give them free car parking so no action is required at a payment machine or the on the Sippi app.
Having received feedback from our patients and visitors, we have worked with our new car parking provider, UK CPM, and have put in place a more convenient process for patient and visitor Blue Badge holders on the West Suffolk Hospital site.
Should Blue Badge holders wish, they can register their Blue Badge details with UK CPM, which will enable seamless entry and exit to the West Suffolk Hospital site. This means they will not need to remove their Blue Badge and scan this at a car parking payment machine.
To register their Blue Badge with UK CPM, they will need to:
- Email westsuffolknhsft@uk-cpm.com(opens in new tab) (opens in new tab)
- Include the name of the Blue Badge holder, the vehicle registration, the expiry date, and a picture of the blue badge
- UK CPM will register their details
- UK CPM will email to confirm this has been processed and they can then enter and exit the site seamlessly
If their registration has not been processed before Monday, 26 January, they will still need to scan the QR code on the back of their Blue Badge at one of the car parking payment machines.
When their Blue Badge expires, they will need to contact UK CPM to provide them with the new badge’s details.
