To help prevent the spread of winter viruses such as Covid-19, influenza and norovirus (winter vomiting bug), and to protect our patients and staff, please do not visit patients in our hospitals if you have: flu-like symptoms (cough, fever, cold); Covid-19 or influenza, or any other infections; diarrhoea and/or vomiting within the last two days.

Acute Oncology Service

Our Acute Oncology Service (AOS) provides urgent assessment and support for patients experiencing complications related to their cancer or cancer treatment. The service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

If you feel unwell, please contact the 24-hour helpline immediately so your symptoms can be assessed and managed as quickly as possible.

Call us straight away if you are worried about new symptoms. A trained nurse will answer your call, assess your symptoms, and advise you on the best next steps. This might include:

  • Making changes at home
  • Contacting your GP
  • Visiting the Acute Oncology Assessment Unit
  • Going to the Emergency Department

When to call the AOS helpline

Call us if you:

  • feel unwell
  • have signs of infection or a temperature of 37.5°C or higher
  • have diarrhoea or vomiting
  • notice any new symptoms
