NHS pharmacy careers open day

West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (WSFT) is holding a pharmacy careers open day on Saturday 19 May for any aspiring or existing pharmacy staff to see what a career in the NHS has to offer.

Simon Whitworth, chief pharmacist at WSFT, said: “Pharmacy staff play a vital role in patient care and recovery as well as public health by using their expert knowledge of medicines and their uses. This open day is the perfect opportunity for anyone considering a pharmacy career in the NHS, or wanting a step up in their existing pharmacy career. Come and meet our team, ask questions and learn more about what we do behind the scenes here at our outstanding Trust.”

The Education Centre at the rear of the hospital site will be open from 10.00am – 2.00pm, where visitors are invited to find out about how the hospital pharmacy operates, meet staff in various pharmaceutical roles, and go on a behind-the-scenes tour, including seeing the pharmacy ‘robot’ and a demonstration of the Trust’s cutting edge electronic prescribing services.

The Trust has many roles on offer, including pharmacy assistant roles, where candidates don’t need previous experience to apply – perfect for student fresh out of A Levels or for anyone wishing for a career change. There are also vacancies for pharmacy technicians and clinical pharmacists who are looking for a new challenge.

David Sapsford, deputy chief pharmacist at WSFT, said: “Our team is committed to providing a round-the-clock service for our patients, who are at the centre of everything we do. One of the best things about being part of our hospital pharmacy team is that you get to work with a vast cross-section of teams and disciplines from across the Trust. There are excellent career progression opportunities available, and a friendly and supportive work environment. Something particularly unique to us is our fully-implemented electronic prescribing system, developed as part of the Trust’s wider digital innovation programme. It’s an exciting time to join our forward-thinking pharmacy team, and we look forward to meeting you!”
