"Here's to another 70 years"

The Bury St Edmunds Constituency Labour Party has proudly presented a giant NHS birthday card to the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (WSFT).

Quentin Cornish, Chair, and Nicola Iannelli-Popham, Secretary, of the Bury St Edmunds Constituency Labour Party, delivered the card directly to the hospital in recognition of the excellent service provided by the Trust and its dedicated staff.

As part of a Labour Party national campaign day on Saturday 7 July, Bury St Edmunds Constituency Labour Party members took to the streets of Bury St Edmunds to celebrate the 70th birthday of Labour’s proudest achievement; the creation of the National Health Service, which provides universal healthcare on the basis of need, free at the point of use.

They invited people to sign the NHS Birthday Card, and the local community didn’t disappoint, queuing up to sign, not just with their signatures, but with heart-felt messages of thanks and appreciation, which will now be on display at the hospital for staff to read.

A selection of the quotes read:

“Thank you for saving my wife! You’re the best.”

“Long may you continue.”

“Saved my life – twice! Happy birthday NHS.”

Stephen Dunn, chief executive of WSFT, and Jan Bloomfield, director of workforce and communications at WSFT, were pleased to receive the card on behalf of staff, and were touched by the messages and tributes that they read.

Stephen said: “It was really very kind of the group to collect these messages for us in the NHS’ 70th year. On behalf of all our staff, I sincerely thank them and everyone who contributed. We’re so lucky to have so much support from our local community and will do our best to continue to provide our local people excellent quality care for many years to come.”
