College nominates Trust for national award

A longstanding partnership between our Trust and West Suffolk College has seen us shortlisted for a national apprenticeship award.

The FE Week and AELP AAC Apprenticeship Awards 2020 is a ‘celebration of excellence in apprenticeship delivery’ where organisations and providers are awarded, and gain the recognition they deserve for their commitment to driving apprenticeships.

We have been shortlisted in the Health and Science Apprenticeship provider of the year category after being nominated by the college – who currently support 20 senior healthcare support worker apprentices working at the hospital.

The two organisations have been working in partnership for over 10 years and have supported over 200 apprentices as part of a working collaboration. The college nominated the hospital for the award and explained: “Our partnership has ensured quality teaching has been delivered, professional assessments completed, and the achievement of apprentices has been exceptional giving them the opportunity to follow their dreams and aspirations.”

Diane Last, clinical education lead at our Trust, said: “Our close partnership with West Suffolk College has continued to grow over the years and we are truly humbled that the college nominated us for this award. We deliver teaching to support these apprentices for 18 months while they work towards their Level 3 qualification, and the college assesses the apprentices’ progress. It’s so rewarding to watch people blossom in what could be the first step of their healthcare career.”

Catriona Bacon, Head of Healthcare at the college commented: “We are immensely proud to be working with West Suffolk Hospital; helping them to develop and create the workforce of the future in this vital area means so much to us. This is all about supporting apprentices and seeing their passion for healthcare come to fruition and we are over the moon to see the hospital shortlisted for this award.”

The awards ceremony takes place on Tuesday, 3 March at the ICC in Birmingham where representatives from both our Trust and the college will be attending.
