Diabetes foot clinic

The diabetes foot clinic provides assessment, diagnosis and treatment for foot problems caused by diabetes.

We see both outpatients and inpatients at West Suffolk Hospital.

Referrals can be made by any healthcare professional by emailing: DiabetesFootClinic@wsh.nhs.uk

Please include:

  • details of the current foot concern
  • clinical photographs where possible
  • three pieces of patient identifiable information
  • full medical history
  • a current medications list

You will be able to speak with a member of the team.

Routine podiatry care

The Diabetes Foot Clinic does not provide routine podiatry care (e.g. nail cutting). For this, please visit Podiatry – Suffolk GP Federation or speak with your GP Practice.

Your appointment - what to expect

During your appointment you may be seen by more than one member of the team, including:

  • Diabetes specialist podiatrists
  • Diabetes consultants
  • Diabetes specialist nurses
  • Vascular specialist nurses
  • Healthcare assistants
  • Vascular surgeons
  • Orthopaedic surgeons

At your appointment we may need to undertake/perform:

  • A full medical history
  • Wound care which may include debridement and application of a dressing
  • Tests and investigations such as x-ray, wound swab and blood tests
  • Fitting of specialist footwear

What to bring to your appointment

  • A list of current medications, including any antibiotics you may be taking
  • A snack and drink
  • Any medication you need to take during the appointment.
