Experienced interim chief nurse joins Trust

The West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust has recruited Sue Wilkinson as interim chief nurse. She will be on secondment for six months from the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, where she is currently based as deputy director of nursing.

Sue said: “I am thrilled to be joining West Suffolk NHS FT and look forward to meeting all the staff. I know that I’m joining at a strange time, as the team work through the COVID-19 pandemic, and my absolute priority will be supporting our nurses, midwives, AHPs, clinical support workers and others as they care for patients.

“I am passionate about quality and patient safety, developing people to achieve their full potential, and about working as one team for our patients. I hope to meet as many staff as possible very quickly, and am keen to understand how I can support them to continue to deliver high quality care to our patients.”

Stephen Dunn, chief executive of the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Sue brings many years of senior nursing experience, with a clear focus on quality, professional care for patients, and the welfare of staff.

“I have no doubt that Sue will continue to lead our nursing directorate with the care, compassion and success that we have been used to seeing over the last few years, and welcome her expertise at this challenging time.”

Current chief nurse Rowan Procter announced that she is standing down as executive chief nurse after more than four years in the role, to begin an exciting new venture with the Orwell Housing Association in June 2020.

Steve paid tribute to Rowan, saying: “On behalf of everyone at the Trust, I want to thank Rowan for her drive, determination and unwavering patient-focused approach. She has impacted on so many staff and patients’ lives during her time here. We give Rowan our warmest wishes for the future.”

The recruitment process for a permanent director of nursing for the Trust will take place later this year.
