Services we provide

We see and treat people with a wide range of breathing and lung problems, including:

  • Ongoing or unexplained breathlessness (not caused by heart problems)
  • Chest pain not linked to the heart
  • A long-lasting cough or chronic cough
  • A cough that doesn't go away
  • Frequent chest infections
  • Abnormal chest X-rays that need further tests
  • Suspected lung cancer (seen within 2 weeks of referral)
  • Suspected lung scarring (fibrosis) or other interstitial lung diseases
  • Breathing problems caused by work (occupational lung disease)
  • Asthma that is hard to control or gets worse often
  • Asthma in pregnancy
  • Breathing failure (when your lungs can't get enough oxygen or remove enough carbon dioxide)
  • Complex conditions that affect both the heart and lungs
  • Pleural disease (affecting the lining of the lungs)
  • Patients who need a bronchoscopy (a test to look inside your airways)

We also treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), when you might have:

  • Unclear diagnosis
  • Severe symptoms or very frequent flare-ups
  • Fast decline in how well you can carry out daily tasks
  • Symptoms that seem worse than expected based on lung function tests
  • COPD that started early in life or in people who don’t smoke
  • When long-term steroid treatment might be needed
