Cambridge to Bruges charity bike ride announced for the bereavement team at the West Suffolk Hospital

A 320km ride of love, remembrance and hope in memory of baby Hudson

My WiSH Charity, the dedicated charity supporting West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, is proud to be the beneficiary of the upcoming Cambridge to Bruges Charity Bike Ride, taking place 9 to11 July 2026. The three-day challenge will see riders cover 320km and will raise funds for the Trust’s bereavement services, helping them to continue supporting families during a difficult time.

Rhiannon and Mike Lawson

The ride is inspired by the story of Hudson, the son of My WiSH Charity supporter and previous Cycle4Good rider Rhiannon Lawson, and her partner Mike. Their son was born sleeping on 13 March 2025 after being diagnosed with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a rare congenital heart condition.

In their time of unimaginable loss, the maternity and bereavement team at West Suffolk Hospital provided outstanding care, dignity and emotional support.

“My WiSH Charity made an unbearable experience gentler, kinder and more human,” said Rhiannon.

This ride is our way of giving back, honouring Hudson’s life and helping ensure other families receive the same exceptional care we did.”

Sally Daniels, grant and appeals manager for My WiSH Charity, said: “Rhiannon is an amazing person, she has experienced the greatest loss imaginable and yet she constantly gives back. Rhiannon is inviting others to sign up and join her and the Cycle4Good team, as they take on this incredible challenge.”

Bereavement midwife, Justine Ladds, added: "We can't thank Rhiannon enough for all her fundraising for us. We are a small team, but we are passionate about caring for families who experience baby loss. These donations will help us to continue working with My WiSH to ensure we can do provide some extra comfort."

For those signing up to join Rhiannon, the ride includes a training plan to get you ready for the challenge, all travel, accommodation, meals (with the exception of dinner and breakfast on the ferry), medical support and a dedicated support crew on hand to ensure they can fix any bike problems and support anyone who struggles. Noone is left behind and past rides have had cyclists aged between 25 to 70 so, whether you are a seasoned cyclist, or a total newbie, this ride is about community, remembrance and making a difference.
