Diabetes + Endocrinology 

Clinical Pathway

Recommended Action

Obligatory admissions and inpatients – DKA etc

Cannot be managed in the community. Protocols to be discharged asap

Outpatient attendances 

Moved to telephone or video consultation, will only be brought in if clinical need.

Routine diabetes care 

Nurses have reduced primary care supported clinics. Patients are being triaged and only urgent Follow ups are taking place. 

Diabetic foot services

Need to continue as patients feet at risk, both inpatient and outpatient. 

Pregnancy and diabetes services

Continue as normal, F2F. 

Help lines 

To support outpatients with acute diabetes-related problems - to continue as normal, with nurses supporting to prevent admissions/clinic demand. 

Routine type 1 diabetes clinics

To do be done via telephone, unless urgent/at risk

Routine type 2 diabetes clinics

To do be done via telephone, unless urgent/at risk

Blood tests

Continue to be requested for patients, this avoids admissions and ensures patients can be monitored out of clinics. 

Endocrinology clinics

Moved to telephone, patients can be seen face to face if clinical need.
