Initial Strategy
Sites in Sudbury, which are owned by West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, WSFT, are to be marketed for sale. The news that planning permission has been granted to build the new Sudbury Health Centre on Church Field Road means that the sites are now surplus to requirement. The sites comprise Harp Close Meadow, land at Church Field Road and two hospitals, Walnuttree and St Leonards. Services currently provided by WSFT at the hospital sites will continue until they can be transferred to the new Sudbury Health Centre. Income received from future sales will be reinvested into meeting the healthcare needs of people living in the communities served by West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust.
 
 
Site Opportunities
HARP CLOSE MEADOW|: This site offers the potential for a number of positive contributions to local residents and the wider Sudbury community. These include affordable housing, the posibility of a pedestrian crossing in Waldingfield Road and creation of public open space with play equipment. These visible enhancements will be in addition to commuted payments to be agreed with the Council for local services. The site has the potential to offer 120 dwellings of mixed size, whilst delivering a new public open space connected into existing established areas of open space.
WALNUTTREE HOSPITAL|: This site offers an opportunity to enhance the Conservation Area in which it is located. The opportunity to reuse buildings with architectural and historic merit will allow preservation and enhancement through sympathetic design proposals, which local people will have the opportunity to comment upon. The site offers an ideal town centre location for new housing of high quality design, which can benefit from views over the water meadows.
ST LEONARDS HOSPITAL|: There are a number of residential properties located in close proximity to St. Leonards and any proposals will provide an opportunity to address overlooking and overshadowing in accordance with planning guidelines. The site offers an opportunity to provide a new and suitable use in close proximity to the town centre.
LAND AT CHURCH FIELD ROAD|: The trust would like to invite the represenatives of the local community to indicate their prefered use for the site. It is important that the prefered use should be complimentary to its surroundings and there is an opportunity to reconsider the land allocation through the local development framework.
