Getting to the Hospital

Transport to hospital
Patient transport is no longer booked by West Suffolk Hospital unless you are an in-patient already in hospital needing transport home. If you require transport please call the the Ambulance Trust.
Arriving by car
There are several car parks on site, labelled A, B, C, D & E (see the Site Map). All patient and visitor parking is in the main front car park (A) with the exception of those attending the Macmillan Unit. A ‘Pay on Foot’ system is in use in car park A and a Pay and Display machine is situated adjacent to the Macmillan Unit.
There is also dedicated parking for Renal patients adjacent to the Renal Unit.
The rear car parks are for staff only, who have access by permit and pay card.

When travelling by car please leave sufficient time to park and get to your hospital destination. Please make sure you do not park on the service roads or in ambulance bays in the front of the hospital as these are used by emergency vehicles. Change for the Pay on Foot machines can be obtained from change machines in the hospital front entrance area and in the Courtyard Café.
By bus and coach services
The main bus station is in St Andrew's Street North, a few minutes walk from the town centre.
Mulleys Bus Company runs the M11/M22 bus service from here to the hospital and return; currently this runs at hourly intervals at 10 minutes past the hour arriving at the hospital at 27 minutes past. For timetable enquiries, please call Mulleys on 01359 230234.
Stephensons Bus Company runs the Bury St Edmunds Town Breeze Service from here to the hospital and return; currently this runs at half hourly intervals, at 15 and 45 minutes past the hour arriving at the hospital at 25 and 55 minutes past. The railway station is on Station Hill (tel: 01284 484950), about 1 mile from the town centre and 2 miles from the hospital. There are at least five train services daily between Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich and Cambridge; the journey time for either is approximately 45 minutes.
There is bus service from the station which runs to the main bus station in St Andrew's Street North, with connecting services to the hospital. There is also a taxi rank outside the station, and further taxi offices on Station Hill.
The main taxi rank in Bury St Edmunds is on Cornhill, and there are others at the Railway Station, as indicated above. For a list of registered taxi companies please contact the Tourist Information Centre (01284 764667).
Main and Rear Entrances
Open between 0700hrs - 2200hrs
A&E entrance open all other times.
When you arrive at the hospital through the main or rear entrances there is an information desk manned by the Hospital Volunteers Service who will be happy to help and answers your queries.
The visiting times have been standardised and for most wards are 2.30pm to 3.30pm and 7pm to 8pm.
But certain wards have special arrangements and different times so please check the Visiting Guidelines and Visiting Times pages for further information.
No Smoking Policy
The whole of the West Suffolk Hospital is a NO SMOKING area. We ask that you observe this and refrain from smoking.
Mobile Telecommunication Equipment
Due to the sensitive nature of hospital equipment ALL mobile phones and communication equipment must be turned off when within the hospital buildings.
